The official launch status, media tests, and one launch-version community report all point to a difficult native Deck experience. The 7 to 8 FPS report is a single test, not a universal performance baseline.
EA's current FAQ says Star Wars Zero Company will not be Steam Deck Verified at launch and that the community will be updated if this changes.
EA says the Steam version is Steam native and does not require the EA app. That answers the launcher question, though it does not guarantee acceptable Deck performance.
The game has controller support, while EA notes that certain text inputs still require keyboard entry. RPG Site also reported that the on-screen keyboard did not appear for character naming on its Deck test.
| Test context | Environment | Finding | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck OLED | Stable SteamOS with Proton 11 and Experimental | Lowest settings and very low internal resolution still dropped to about 11 FPS when moving the camera in battles. | External Guide test |
| Steam Deck LCD | Preview-channel SteamOS | Performance was a little better across the board, though the test still described native play as poor and saw later areas fall to 15 FPS or less. | External Guide test |
| PC Gamer review hardware | Lowest settings with maximum FSR in the review test | The review reports a 15 to 20 FPS result and describes the image as difficult to parse on Steam Deck. | External Guide test |
| Launch-version community report | Steam Deck at lowest settings; Deck model and software versions were not recorded in the post | One player reported about 7 to 8 FPS every few seconds, severe stuttering, slow-motion pacing, and a blurry image, then returned to desktop play. | Community Report, single test |
These settings are useful because they show what was already tried. They should not be presented as a reliable native performance preset.
1280x800 and 1280x720 were tested. Lowering resolution did not create a reliable playable result.
The lowest preset was tested. Severe drops remained during camera movement and later areas.
TSR or FXAA with dynamic resolution and a 25% lower bound still produced very poor battle movement performance in the OLED test.
Proton 11 and Experimental were both tested without producing a practical native Deck fix.
Use Steam Remote Play from a more powerful PC. RPG Site gives this as the preferred way to play on Steam Deck while the native build remains poorly optimized.
You can try the lowest preset, a lower resolution, and the available upscaling options, though current testing does not show a stable target to recommend. These settings are troubleshooting experiments rather than a confirmed solution.
Revisit the result after a game, SteamOS, or Proton update. Keep the version and settings attached to any new report so the launch snapshot does not get mixed with a later patch.
